Overview
After the pizza oven insulation materials have been assembled, the oven is covered with insulation. Unlike thermal mass, where too much can be a bad thing, there isn’t really such a thing as too much brick oven insulation.
Depending on the type of enclosure you have chosen, you will add either insulating concrete or loose vermiculite to fully insulate your oven — depending on your pizza oven finish design.
An Igloo design oven will incorporate insulating vermiculite concrete as part of the Igloo shape. Cover the entire structure with 4 ” – 6″ of vermiculite-based insulating concrete, following the final shape of the Igloo.
The Gabled House and Indoor partition wall installations will use loose vermiculite insulation poured into the gap between your oven and the enclosure walls.
You are ready for the next step: Oven Finish. Choose either the Igloo, Gabled House, or an Indoor installation.
