New Webisode: Tricycle Pizza in Monterey, California
Danica Alvarado is a bright light. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Forno Bravo Expo in Salinas, California, where hundreds of fellow fire-freaks gathered for a few days of food, wine, music, and wood-fire fun in the sun. Danica told me that, as a teenager, she was inspired by watching Nancy Silverton shape beautiful pizzas right here during our first season of Pizza Quest, so she spent hours practicing with her own dough balls (as she explains in the video) and, when she had it figured out, bought herself a mobile wood-fired oven and Tricycle Pizza was born. In this webisode, Danica shares a little of her journey and her vision and, I predict, you will be quite impressed by her. In fact, since filming this interview, Danica has expanded her business and opened a unique brick and mortar version of Tricycle Pizza in Monterey, where the customers buy the pizzas outside, at the mobile oven (with her original tricycle parked alongside), and then bring them into her cafe to enjoy with friends and family. What a great business model!
Another prediction: this is not the last time we will hear from Danica Alvarado — this young lady has a big, bright future.
