Ricky Price: “Celebrate Your Wins” and the Five Pillars of Success
Welcome back to Pizza Quest.
In our ongoing efforts to expand the scope of our podcast (“It’s more about the quest than it is about the pizza”), I am always looking for interesting guests who are passionately engaged in their own quests, even if they aren’t pizza-focused. For example, my guest in this episode is Ricky Price, former basketball All-American and one-time star of the Duke University basketball team under the mentorship of the legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski (known simply as Coach K to all fans). Ricky has had an amazing as well as turbulent journey that he shares in his book, Celebrate Your Wins . It is about the ups and downs of life, of the precariousness of a career in sports (with its notoriously short shelf life), and of how a superstar athlete picks himself up after a fall and uses the life lessons he learned along the way to carry on after the glory days of athletic heroics have come and gone. In other words, it is a story of resilience and how one continues to find meaning and purpose as life goes on by “celebrating your wins.”
Ricky is refreshingly open and transparent about his journey, about his successes and his missteps, and how he learned to apply the lessons learned from Coach K (and other mentors as well), to create a program for young athletes called Game Ready Skills and Development built around what he calls his “five pillars of success.” You’ll hear all about those five pillars and of this inspirational journey of resilience and life-lessons-learned, as you join us in this enlightening conversation with Ricky Price here on Pizza Quest.
