Pizza Quest Season Three, Episode 6: Geno From Jersey and His Grandma Pie
Everyday, new pizzerias open everywhere to varying degrees of success. But what is it that causes some of them to immediately break from the pack and generate buzz and excitement? Geno DiPaolo and his daughter Gena somehow found that “secret sauce” to make it happen in Charlotte, NC, at their Geno D’s Pizza. Geno is known as by his fans as “Geno from Jersey,” and that is part, but not all, of the magic. In this episode, Geno and Gena fill us in on what makes “Jersey pizza” so special to the many Carolinians who are now flocking to their tiny kiosk-style father/daughter pizzeria. Geno also shares some of his techniques for Geno D’s signature Grandma Pizza, which has quickly become a crowd favorite. It’s all here on a new episode of Pizza Talk on Pizza Quest.
(Note: FYI, as you’ve probably noticed, we’ ve returned to the name Pizza Quest for this season, as Pizza Talk came into being to specifically address the challenges of the pizza community during the early days of the pandemic. This year we are refocusing on the deeper mission of Pizza Quest, which is “a journey of self-discovery through pizza.” For awhile, I’ll keep both names in play for those who still follow us by the Pizza Talk name.)
