Rest in Peace, Shawn Randazzo
It is with great sadness that I report on the passing of Shawn Randazzo, who we interviewed here on Pizza Talk just a few months ago. Shawn, as we discussed during the interview, was in treatment for glioblastoma brain cancer and had high hopes for a full recovery, but it was not to be. Our hearts are broken for him and for his family, wife Kerri,, and their four children. Here is a link to the GoFundMe site where they are raising money for Shawn’s family and to help pay off his medical expenses: https://fr.gofundme.com/f/shawn-randazzo
Here, also, is a link to the article in the Detroit News about Shawn, with more details: https://www.detroitnews.com/story/obituaries/2020/12/06/award-winning-owner-detroit-style-pizza-co-dies-brain-cancer/3849324001/
Shawn, as many of you know, is really one of the major heroes of the Detroit-style pizza renaissance. Starting as a delivery driver for Cloverleaf Pizza (one of the most iconic of the original Detroit-style pizzerias) to eventually buying it and creating from it the Detroit-Style Pizza brand. Here is a link to Part One of the interview we did did with Shawn and Jeff Smokevich on Pizza Talk, where the always generous Shawn shared with us his technique for how to make a truly authentic Detroit-style pizza. https://www.fornobravo.com/pizzaquest/pizza-talk-the-kings-of-detroit-style-pizza/
Part two, with Shawn’s demo, can be found at: https://www.fornobravo.com/pizzaquest/pizza-talk-the-kings-of-detroit-style-pizza-part-2/
May he rest in peace and may his memory be eternal.
