Default My Pop always said......

"Leave well enough alone."

Being almost 40 years old... I guess I haven't learned the lesson yet.

So me being me.... I checked on my arch. You know to see if it had gotten strong.... Gave it a shake and .... crack..

I ended up having to take it down.

I guess I'll have to do it again.

ho hum...

Eh, that 'listen to your old man' thing is overrated...

I donít think that the listening to the old man thing is the problem here. Itís the son being too hasty and "I know what Iím doing" thing the we sons do. Of course we learn as we go on, donít we!

I love this quote from Mark Twain:

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

Drake,

I'd have to go with Mark Twain. My father was a shipwright and had really, really large tools (think of a six foot long wrench). He was very calm, not talkative, verging on taciturn. He knew much but said little. Like Uno, I was in awe of his abilities from about seven.

I had a good Dad.

I learned much from him. Examples of what works and plenty of examples of what did not. In many ways, I think I learned the most from our failures (and evenutal recovery).

I miss him

Christo

Christo, I couldn't describe my dad any better or differently.

One thing has been with me since I was a small boy. Dad kind of took a no nonsense approach to rasing 5 boys. We knew early on the difference between right and wrong and treating people as you would expect to be treated.
Being the youngest I had the pleasure of hearing most of his talks multiple times; by the time we each became teenagers the "talks" were simple and to the point - Go to jail, you'll stay in jail; damnit, you know better.
Needless to say, only one of us has ever had a run in with the law, my second oldest brother while in college - for offering a cop a sip of his beer as he and his friends walked out of a bar (no open container law). My brother spent 2 nights in jail until one of his friends could get the cash to bail him out.....didn't call Dad for help, just my mom to let her know he wouldn't be home for a day or two.
