{"id":7784,"date":"2025-05-04T11:11:06","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T15:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/?p=7784"},"modified":"2025-05-02T10:11:54","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T14:11:54","slug":"multi-james-beard-nominee-cathy-whims-of-portlands-nostrana-and-her-brand-new-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/multi-james-beard-nominee-cathy-whims-of-portlands-nostrana-and-her-brand-new-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Multi-James Beard Nominee Cathy Whims of Portland&#8217;s Nostrana and her Brand New Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Welcome back to Pizza Quest!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week we welcome six-time James Beard Award finalist, <strong>Chef Cathy Whims<\/strong>, owner of Portland&#8217;s beloved restaurant, <em>Nostrana<\/em>. which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I first met Cathy when she was the chef and co-owner of Portland&#8217;s celebrated fine dining Italian restaurant <em>Genoa<\/em>, where I enjoyed a memorable six-course tasting menu along with the famous bread book author, Carol Field (<em>The Italian Baker<\/em>).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> That was over 25 years ago. <\/span><em>Genoa<\/em> closed a few years later, and <em>Nostrana<\/em> emerged, but it\u2019s quite different from <em>Genoa<\/em>, serving wonderful rustic Italian food and Neapolitan pizzas to its large and loyal following. This month also marks the publication of Cathy&#8217;s first book, <em><strong>The Italian Summer Kitchen<\/strong><\/em>, full of wonderful, easy-to-make recipes as well as the stories behind them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I felt like we were all so young when we first met (and Cathy is still far younger than I), but now it feels like we&#8217;re like the surviving old timers.
