It was raining as long and consistently as I can remember here in Los Angeles. \u00a0We knew the rain was coming and looked forward to a day off to just hang out, watch some football and make something to eat that served the purpose of the day.<\/p>\n<p>I had some pizza dough in the fridge that I made the previous day so I thought why not make some pizza. \u00a0I started to debate going out to the store to shop for a few ingredients for various pizza ideas I had been thinking about. \u00a0The longer I sat next to the fire that morning, the more I just wanted to make do with whatever ingredients I had at home. When I rummaged through our &#8220;assets&#8221; I came right to it! \u00a0I had the makings for my own &#8220;<em>gourmet<\/em>&#8221; or artisan <em><strong>Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza<\/strong><\/em>: \u00a0ground beef, a spicy Italian sausage, smoked gouda, mozzarella, a red onion, DiNapoli Fire Roasted Tomatoes, La Quercia prosciutto (the bacon!), and a single left over jalape\u00f1o! \u00a0Sometimes you just see the finished product when you are looking at the pieces. When this happens it\u2019s usually a good sign.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3723\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3723\" class=\"wp-image-3723 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/MG_8064-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"_mg_8064\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/MG_8064-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/MG_8064.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3723\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some nice dough balls getting ready for their next step.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With a good idea in place I pulled the dough out of the fridge to warm up and sat back down in front of the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Then my phone dinged. It didn\u2019t ring &#8212; this is 2017. Our friends Kurt and Kim, of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/moms-soy-pickled-jalepenos\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Mom\u2019s Soy Pickled Jalape\u00f1os\u201d<\/a> fame sent us a text about coming over to guess what \u2014 huddle around some homemade chili and watch football next to their fire. Something that doesn&#8217;t fall apart. Pizza Bun Burger does the job!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve previously made gourmet burgers with pizza ingredients, which turned out amazing. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/brads-corner-wood-fired-pizza-bun-burger\/\" target=\"_blank\">*Link<\/a>\u00a0 What we were doing here is making a pizza with gourmet ingredients that sort of pays homage to the simple goodness of the basic beautiful cheeseburger\u2026with bacon, of course. \u00a0Check this one out if you haven&#8217;t seen it. \u00a0It&#8217;s crazy good and you&#8217;ll have a lot of fun playing with the concept! Hey, you can even do it in your PJ&#8217;s!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Pizza Dough<br \/>\n&#8211; DiNapoli Fire Roasted Tomatoes<br \/>\n(*Great product! The fire roasted flavor added to these amazing tomatoes was a perfect match this recipe.)<br \/>\n&#8211; Ground Beef *About a pound maker 4 pizzas<br \/>\n&#8211; Spicy Italian Sausage &#8211; 1 large sausage removed from casing.<br \/>\n&#8211; Chopped Red Onions<br \/>\n&#8211; Smoked Gouda &#8211; grated<br \/>\n&#8211; Mozzarella &#8211; grated<br \/>\n&#8211; Prosciutto (*Lucky I had some La Quercia Prosciutto on hand)<br \/>\n&#8211; Thinly Sliced Jalape\u00f1os<br \/>\n&#8211; Olive Oil<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Burger:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cook up the ground beef and sausage in a pan with the chopped onions. Cook until just barely done, leaving a little cooking time on it because you are going finish cooking it in the oven on the pizza. I seasoned this with garlic salt and pepper. I had one spicy Italian sausage left in my fridge and decided to add this to the beef which turned out to be a really nice addition. It brings some great flavor, but also bring something interesting to the concept of bringing two \u201cunrelated\u201d food concepts (cheeseburger and pizza) together like this.<\/p>\n<p>Drain the fat and set ground beef mixture aside.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sauce:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sauce is the &#8220;Catsup,&#8221; right?! For this I had a can of DiNapoli Fire Roasted tomatoes. These are really delicious on their own, but I added a few things: \u00a0a good pinch of oregano and basil, some garlic powder, pepper, and finally just a little tiny bit &#8211; almost a waved hand with some Kosher salt pinched between your thumb and index finger over the sauce. My father used to do with his Vermouth when making a Martini.
