{"id":331,"date":"2011-06-06T21:09:56","date_gmt":"2011-06-07T01:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/2011\/06\/06\/cass-house-mulberry-pizza\/"},"modified":"2011-06-06T21:09:56","modified_gmt":"2011-06-07T01:09:56","slug":"cass-house-mulberry-pizza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/cass-house-mulberry-pizza\/","title":{"rendered":"The Cass House Mulberry Pizza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div id=\"attachment_327\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-327\" class=\"caption alignright size-full wp-image-327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/img_9875.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Chef Jensen Lorenzen and Peter at The Cass House's new outdoor wood burning oven.\" align=\"right\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/img_9875.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/img_9875-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-327\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chef Jensen Lorenzen and Peter at The Cass House&#8217;s new outdoor wood burning oven.<\/p><\/div>Pizza Quest is about to take us on a journey up to the Central Coast of California.\u00a0 We had the good fortune to stumble upon a small coastal town called Cayucos that has some real hidden gems worth the a special trip.\u00a0 One of the focal points of our visit was to explore what pizza is and could be with the terrific chef and proprietor of The Cass House Inn &#8211; Chef Jensen Lorenzen.\u00a0\u00a0 We&#8217;ll let you in on more of the details as we release the coming video segments where we explore Cayucos with Jensen and some of the other local food stars!<\/p>\n<p>I was recently reviewing some of the footage and was compelled to try to make a version of the pizza I watched Jensen and Peter create before our eyes.\u00a0 Jensen had assembled a host of local ingredients, one of which was fresh local mulberries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0This caught my attention and I knew I had a personal quest to take care of.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_328\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-328\" class=\"caption alignright size-full wp-image-328\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/_mg_5325.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Fresh Blackberries were a worthy alternative\" align=\"right\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/_mg_5325.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/_mg_5325-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-328\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fresh Blackberries were a worthy alternative<\/p><\/div>As I watched Jensen speak on the videotape about the mulberries, I was transported back to that beautiful day when we filmed, and remembered how delicious that pizza turned out to be.\u00a0 My &#8220;aha&#8221; moment was the memory of how those mulberries sat bubbling on his pizza after it came out of the oven.\u00a0 I get hooked like this on occasion.\u00a0 I realized that I had a tendency toward this kind of fixation a number of years ago when I found myself craving a cheese burger for a prolonged period of time.\u00a0 The simpler the cheese burger the better.\u00a0 I even liked thinking or hearing the words &#8220;cheese burger.&#8221;\u00a0One day I was watching what had become a favorite movie of mine, &#8220;Crimes and Misdemeanors&#8221;.\u00a0 In what is apparently quite a memorable scene for many viewers, Woody Allen and Mia Farrow are playing hooky from work at a movie theater and Woody hands Mia a ball of foil saying, &#8220;Have another <em>cheese burger<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 Mia slowly unwraps the foil. It crinkles as it she peels it back and she goes about eating what appears to be a very basic and, likely, cold cheese burger. Well, they had hooked me.\u00a0 I realized I had watched the movie recently and this must be the reason for my latest little obsession.\u00a0 I still laugh about it today.\u00a0 Excuse me, I have to go make &#8220;something&#8221; for lunch&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Back to the Cass House, which is a place I found because of this so called fixation in the first place.\u00a0 Smoked fish brought me there.\u00a0\u00a0 The interesting people I met brought me back!\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ll tell you more about that story when I post my Central Coast gallery in a few weeks for this new webisode series.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_329\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-329\" class=\"caption alignright size-full wp-image-329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/_mg_5328.jpg\" border=\"0\" title=\"Brad's House Blackberry Pizza \" align=\"right\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/_mg_5328.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.fornobravo.com\/pizzaquest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2011\/06\/_mg_5328-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-329\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brad&#8217;s House Blackberry Pizza<\/p><\/div>Ok, now back &#8211; back to the Cass House Pizza!<\/p>\n<p>Chef Jensen and Peter created this scrumptious pizza using local ingredients that featured fresh mulberries.\u00a0 When you watch the video (it will post in a few weeks) you will be treated to a true experiment as they improv and create this and other pizzas that represent the local region and food culture.\u00a0 Jensen suggested, to his surprise after they tasted it, that this could even be served as a dessert pizza.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a great example of how fun pizza making can be.<\/p>\n<p>The pizza starts with some toasted pine nuts sprinkled on the dough.\u00a0 They put these on the bottom because they didn&#8217;t need to be cooked as much as the other ingredients because they had already been toasted.
