The Mariani family has been managing and maintaining their ancient kiln (Antica Fornace Romana) for generations. Trading off quantity for the highest levels of quality, the old wood furnace reaches a temperature of 1750ºF (960ºC), giving the Terracotta Impruneta the classical terracotta color and range of shades. This manual process, combined with the wonderful clay, also gives our terracotta a notable strength and durability, and its widely acknowledge tolerance to cold and frost. Tap on a piece of Terracotta Impruneta, and you will quickly be struck by the solidity of the material, and the characteristic, almost metallic ring that it produces.
