Coming Attractions, Week of August 15th

We left the Cass House Inn at the end of last week and are about to head back to San Francisco, where we'll be spending some time with super pizzaiolo Tony Gemignani. But, before we get there, we have to return one final time for a little dessert at The Taco Temple (you didn't think we were finished with that place, did you?). Owner/chef Adam Pollard bragged to us about his wife's killer carrot cake, so we're going to share a short video webisode with you on Thursday as we chomp down on a big slice of that moist, creamy, carroty wedge.

On Tuesday, in Peter's Blog, I'll begin a series of postings about a major new series that we're working on. Brad will be helping me with his behind the scenes background stories and photos (for those who are new to Pizza Quest, Brad English is one our three co-founders and he also co-produces and directs all the webisodes, as well as being a beast around the home grill and oven, which you've seen in his pictorials).

On Wednesday you'll see another example of Brad's cooking bursts as he shares with us his own original creamy gorgonzola pizza.

Finally, on Friday, well, we're still working on that so check back to see what we come up with. As you know, there's always something new here at Pizza Quest.

This week marks the final segment of the Cass House Inn webisode series, featuring a spectacular lamb loin, with ratatouille and raitta prepared by Chef Jensen that evokes all the flavors of the lamb pizza shown in an earlier episode. In other words, an upscale version, the papa bear, of what we experienced in its offspring downscale baby bear version in the earlier video segment. It brought our visit with Jensen and Grace Lorenzen full circle, and I'll comment more on that on Thursday when we post the webisode, so be sure to join us then.

On Tuesday I'll post another Peter's Blog, this time from Niagara Falls where, believe it or not, I made my first pilgrimage to this most spectacular natural wonder of the world. My ruminations on Tuesday....

On Wednesday we follow Brad English's natural progression from his Caprese Salad of last week to, what else, a Caprese Pizza. As always, lots of photos and instructions as only Brad can dish them. A perfect pizza for high summer enjoyment, on Wednesday!

And, another guest column on Friday from one of our growing list of, well, guest columnists.

You'll never get bored--there's always something new here at Pizza Quest.

Coming Attractions, Week of Aug. 1st

Wow--it's August already, which is really hard to believe (other than by this relentless cross country heat wave, which confirms that it is, indeed, August). So, this week we have some fun new material to post, including a Peter's Blog on Tuesday about my trip to Philadelphia and the incredible pizza I had at Osteria. Brad English is also lending me a photo or two of his recent visit to Tony Gemignani's hot new NYC pizzeria, 900 Degrees (great name!!!), and I'll be commenting on that as well.

On Wednesday we'll be posting a new recipe by Brad, who has been in a tomato frame of mind all summer (or, as he calls them, caprese, which means he's in his deep Italian phase that we'll happily enjoy with him). So Wednesday is Caprese day.

On Thursday, we have a short webisode interlude for you as we prepare for next week's final session with Chef Jensen at The Cass House Inn. This week's little "palate cleanser" features the ladies from The Brown Butter Cookie Shop in Cayucos (you saw on quick shot of their place in last week's webisode). I loved their cookies so much that I want to give you a closer look.

And on Friday we have a new guest column from our friend Wes Bailey on his own pizza quest, the beginning of a new feature in which we'd like to invite you, our viewers and fellow questors, to share your own stories.

As you can see, even in these dog days of summer (I can't get that crazy song out of my head but, no, she's wrong, the dog days are NOT over!), there's always something new here at Pizza Quest.

I'm back after some wonderful R&R, and we have lots of new postings for you this week, beginning on Tuesday with the latest Peter's Blog about my recent trip to the Caribbean full of some pretty amazing non-pizza meals. Can't wait to fill you in....

On Wednesday, we'll be posting Brad's latest creation -- a barbecue pizza that meets Tom Carrig's recent BBQ rant (see the Guest Columns archive) -- at least part of the way. Regardless of which side of the BBQ purist debate you are on, Brad's BBQ Spare Rib Pizza is a winner!

On Thursday we return to the Cass House Inn for a new webisode featuring Chef Jensen Lorenzens's beautiful Lamb Sausage Pizza -- yes, we've been doing a lot of lamb sausage pizzas lately here on Pizza Quest, but it's hard not to when they are all sooo good. You'll see what I mean on Thursday.

And on Friday we'll be posting a new Guest Column from one of our wandering fellow pizza freaks.

Like I said, a week full of new, exciting content. As you already know, there's always something new here at Pizza Quest.

It's mid-summer now, the tomatoes are coming in like crazy, baseball has started its second season, football pre-season practice might actually get the green light this week, and everybody is trying to get some R&R. This week, I'm taking some time off from Pizza Quest and calling in to the bullpen for relief. Brad English will be doing a Brad's Blog this week in place of the Peter's Blog, and we'll post it on Tuesday. It's a terrific retrospective piece that gives a little glimpse of the roots of Pizza Quest, at least Brad's roots as a man on a quest -- kind of a prequel! You'll enjoy reading it.

Brad will also be offering you a treat on Wednesday when he posts his latest kitchen creation-- a pizza he calls T.J.'s Asparagus Pizza, which is based on a recipe one of our members sent in!  Join up and keep the ideas coming.  I know that ever since he caught wind of the notion of shaving fresh asparagus into threads he's been thinking about this one. A great summer pizza!!

And, on Friday we introduce you to our newest guest columnist, Teresa Greenway, who will be serving as our resident sourdough expert. In her first Guest Column, she shares with us her method for making sourdough pizza crust, and you will also find out information for how to get a free download of her sourdough baking book and a link to her excellent website. All that on Friday!!

I'll be back next week and we'll post the newest webisode in our Cass House series as well as all sorts of other cool stuff. As you know, there's always something new here at Pizza Quest!
