Default Attaching Insulation

I got the reccomended ceramic blanket, but I was wondering how everyone anchored the CB to the dome. I know that chicken wire goes over the CB so the stucco/vermiculite/etc has something to adhere to...

Thanks!

Thumbs up Re: Attaching Insulation

Hi Amber,
I used long 2" clouts (large flat headed nails) hammered just into the mortar joints of my brick Pompeii which held the blanket in place very well. The mortar that I used was a little softer only being a few days old and put hen in without compressing the blanket. High temperature refractory 'adhesive' is a lot harder and may prove more difficult to use. Fine stainless or sharpened nails may be better for this.
I did not secure the chicken wire but manipulated/folded/crushed it to lay over the blanket.
If you have a cast dome, then you have a more difficult solution to find.

Amber,

I wrapped my blanket with bailing wire. I did set in 4 or 5 tapcons at the base to fasten the wire to. You can see it on page 2 of my photos.

Amber,

I used a couple of tap con screws around the base to hold the wire. I then just wrapped the blanket around the dome and made a few passes of wire. The CB held to the point that I probably didn't need the wire - the cb is pretty rigid. I then wrapped it in chicken wire.

If you can put a little extra on top!

Don't forget to wear a mask.

Good luck
Dick
