Default Refractory Mortar & Insulation

Hi. I am trying to source for the calcium aluminate to make my own mortar as the fondue cement available seems to be too expensive here. Calcium aluminate is not available here. Is there an option? Also someone suggested that i continue using the fireclay and add sodium silicate to make it strong. Is this possible.

Also in regards to the vermiculite insulation, although it says that it is mined in Kenya, the local stores have never heard about it. We have fibre glass wool that is 2" inch thick. Putting a double layer to make it 4" at the base and the dome, would that be enough insulation?
