| Just in the interest of making someones head explode. All of the ovens are being built with horizontal rings of bricks. What if the rings were oriented verically ? In my mind, doing this would create a series of arches. If you build the center arch first ( keystone problem solved) and alternately build to the right and the left you would have a very strong dome. Or you could build the second arch accross the middle at right angles. However, with the right angle approach the cuts might get tricky. Downside is probably the vertical lines in the dome, however, since each row is an independent arch I don't really see a problem. The current horizontal rings have horizontal lines in the dome. Any thoughts Someone else want to take thier brains for a walk ? Bruce

| I believe the dome strength is a result of overlapping the brick in the horizontal axis. If I follow your thinking, all the vertical arches would just be butted up against each other - correct? If that's the case, and we have proof that cracks happen, it seems to me that it would be pretty weak. Just my thoughts - I try to stay away from the left side of my brain Les...

| Well Bruce, Can of worms opened. Are you going to eat them? I have no idea how you woud tie all the vertical arches together at the top. I say - go for it! Let us know how it works! You got your bricks for free. Innovate! (or not)

| [QUOTE=gjbingham;34164]Well Bruce, Can of worms opened. Are you going to eat them? QUOTE] What..... are you nuts!!!!! My job is not to innovate, but to inspire others to take risks and make mistakes. Then I can take advantage of all their mistakes and cruise thru my build. Side by side arches should be veritcally very strong. Staggering the brick joints should help prevent horizontal cracking. So I guess the question might be in which direction does the oven need to be the strongest ? Bruce
