| Just wondering why oval ovens are always longer front to back rather than side to side?... personally I'd prefer more space on one side for the fire, and would have thought this would be more efficient too.... maybe an egg shaped oven would give a bit of the best of both worlds, though I wouldn't want to build one! Just a thought.....

| The FB oven design is half a geodesic dome not oval. The purpose of that is to reflect the into the middle of the dome. Any other shape would produce cold spots in the oven from uneven heating. You get cold spots anyway. And your right, building it would be a nightmare.

| There are quite a few modular oval ovens on the market such as the Modena2G160 & 180 on the FB site....

| I think it would be a matter of how the oven would be heated. If the oven was larger from side to side then from frount to back, with the chimmey in the frount I would think you would have a larger possibility of dead or cold spots in the barrel shaped ovens. Gary |
