Default Relative Hearth Sizes and Cooking Area

For each 2 inches in increased hearth size your oven gains an additonal 10 percent of cooking area. (roughly)

Hearth Size in inches : Cooking Area in square inches

36 1017
38 1133
40 1256
42 1384
45 1589
48 1800

2 inches.... it may not seem like too much 'till you need it!
.....AKA 2-inch fever

Default Re: Relative Hearth Sizes and Cooking Area

Another way of looking at this: If you increase the diameter of the (circular) hearth by 10%, you increase its area by 21%.

(I find this clearer because it's true regardless of the diameter, but the 10% increase per 2" of diameter is a very close approximation at the scale of a home oven.)

Maybe I just took too many science and engineering courses.
