I really want to take on the project of a Pizza Oven for my back yard, but I am unsure how practical our climate is for the project. Do you have any advice? I live in northern Missouri, almost Iowa, and we definitely have winter here. Thanks for you help. Tom

I don't know about Missouri, but here in Pittsburgh, PA I'm thinking about an oven. I still haven't figured out permits and codes, but I wound't consider weather to be a problem at all. I expect to be able to use the oven on a regular basis for a good 7-8 months a year (apr-nov).

We live North of Omaha and built our oven 2 years ago. Have had no problem with the weather, other than me being a whimp and not wanting to walk the 10 feet to the oven on really cold days. This past New Years Eve Week we had it fired for almost the entire week without any issues and cooked on it every night, either with retained heat or having to give it a burst. What are your most pressing concerns about building an oven and winter?
