Default Perlcrete Hearth Ratio

What is the maximum ratio people have successfully used for a perlcrete hearth? 5:1 seems to be what most people have used but I've read threads where 8:1 and even 10:1 has been used. At what point does the compressive strength get compromised?

Vermicrete 8:1 ". ". ". 70-125.
Vermicrete 3:1 (plus 2 parts sand). 600.
