Only if you're using your oven for retained heat An ash pit is not worth the trouble if you are making pizza. I don't have one and don't want one. I bake with a fire in the oven using direct heat.
If you plan to use your oven as a retained heat oven to bake bread, then an ash slot may be worth considering.
