Opening/Arch

Hi all, I'm new here and have a somewhat silly question. I have some bricks left over from when our house was built and want to know if I can use them for the arch and if so how far in towards the oven can I go without having to use refractory bricks?
Hope somone can help, I'm guessing I'll be visiting this forum quite a bit during the build.
