Default old red clay solids

hey folks, have poured my slab and have started sourcing material,s i have found some old red bricks from my footing,s circa 1900 and was wondering if there is a definitive way to find out if they are appropriate for use ,i have broken one or 2 in half and they seem to be a solid fired brick, they are a bit rough around the edges will this affect performance and layability all info greatly appreciated cheers.
