| I am just in the process of designing a wood fire pizza oven for my back yard and I'm after some advice on how to construct the main oven. I want to make one that looks similar to the oven titled "Falcon, WA" on the web page below. My problem is that I want to make it myself in order to save money yet I have no idea how to get the shape or what material to use. Do I need to construct a mold, or sub structure in order to do it? ![]() ![]() DIY Wood Fired Ovens Being new to this forum I'm unsure were to look for this type of content so any advice would be appreciated. | You came to the right place. That oven is is just the basic dome shaped oven with a stucco covering. You can get the basic plans for this oven FREE from the Forno Bravo site. The instructions will be downloaded to your computer. You also need to read or look at a number of the posts on this forum. There are so many fantastic builds and great advise given. The only problem with this site is settling on a final design becase each one you look at is better then the last one you saw. |

| Start with the free Pompeii oven plans available through Forno Bravo. Read them twenty times. Read the forum archives. That's what we all did. ![]() Cheers!

| And remember a few very important rules.... 1. Plan where you will put the oven VERY carefully, no chance to redecorate later. 2. Dont rush, trust me its more work in the end when you do! ![]() 3. This is the most important, enjoy your build the feeling you get after building one of these ovens is absolutly amazing. Document it well. |

| Although I gave my stone mason detailed drawings, photos, and instructions to make a dome oven, he built this oven which is more of a cone. Do you think it will still work? |

| What kind of brick is that? Is it fire brick? Is the front the start of the chimmey? I see that you have a step down floor is that so you can put a cooking grate over the fire? If so then I think you will have a tough time getting the whole floor up to temperture. How big is that opening? Are you going to make a door to close it once the chimmey is completed? Although I don't think the oven shape has as much of an impact as you might have heard I do think that you should get what you are paying for. |

| I assume you are using the term "mason" rather loosely there. Does he rake the leaves too? |

| I realize we have somewhat hijacked the OP's post, but w.r.t. the Indonesian oven photoed above, where is the flue/chimney? Is it at the front of the oven? We can't see the top of the oven in that photo.
