Question Curing the oven?

When curing the oven, is it done with the door or with out the door on?

The fire needs oxygen so leave the door off. If using a gas burner to do the curing you need to have the door in about half way so wind won't blow the burner out.

After the fire goes out, close the door to maintain the heat.

Like they said. Building my own oven taught me patience, never more so than in finishing the last few chains of the dome and in the curing. Personally, once the dome was done it took me a couple of weeks, working nights and weekends, to finish insulating and stuccoing the dome so it was about 2-3 weeks after finishing the dome, during which it was curing, that I started with small fires...
