| I am thinking of casting my vent for my 42" oven. The instructions say to cast it using a form etc. They do not say if it needs to be a special type of refractory concrete or just regular concrete. Will regular concrete handle the heat in the vent/chimney? Cheers Jase |

| No: The vent area, particularly down near the oven, gets very hot. You need to cast it out of refractory, or build the transition up with firebrick.

| to add to dmun's comments - be sure to use a castable refractory, not Refmix, Heatstop, or the fireclay home brew mortars. I think various manufacturers also offer insulating castable refractory as well. Sorry for the lack of specifics, it has been 1 1/2 yrs since I actually researched this myself (opting to stick will brick, a Duravent transition plate and Duravent pipe for a chimney) RT |

| A quick and easy solution to this problem is to cut your transition out of stainless steel and tack it together as I have just done for Hendo's oven (pic) I will arrange to fit it with the lights on Saturday with a few small dyna bolts located in the centre of the firebrick archways. It also makes the fitment and aiming of the oven illumination a breeeeze. Neill
