| Hi all, I'm in Bend, Oregon ready to buy firebrick and noticed that the local building supplies sell only low-duty fire brick (still able to withstand 2000 degrees). Should I go with the higher duty brick (also $4 more per brick) or stick with the low duty. Funny how same brick ranges in price from $1.37 all the way to $2.87. Thanks for any help. |

| The FB plans call for a medium duty fire brick, but since these aren't available everywhere- many have built oven using regular old clay brick. I'd say it's safe to go with the low duty...but overcompensate with more insulation.

| The low duty firebrick is fine -- and better than a clay brick. The main different is that the medium duty firebrick has a little higher alumina content and it's denser. That said, the Pompeii Oven kit has really nice (flat, square, nice edges) medium duty firebricks for $1.20. :-) James

| light duty "fireplace" bricks are perfect. They are usually the cheapest and actually have the best refractory properties (alumina content of under 35%) for what most of us are trying to do with our ovens - heat up fast for pizza & store enough heat for baking. RT |

| From what I've found, it's nearly impossible to find low duty firebrick, at least around Seattle. I hope the medium duty firebricks don't beat the heck out of my saw blade.

| James, that is REALLY a good price for medium duty. Sure wish you would have had the kit a few years ago, I gladly would have given FB the business. RT |

| I also wish I had seen the kit before I bought firebrick. Could have saved some money. Next one. Joe |

| Thanks all for the info. The kit looks great but the $1,000 shipping charge is too much for my blood. |

| More on firebricks here from today. I put together a table with the different types of firebrick and what to ask for. http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f6/fire-brick-8600.html (Fire brick) Jefekefe, you might want to call the office at (800) 407-5119. We can see if we can beat the price the FB Store is calculating. Enjoy! James

I built my oven out of medium duty. One blade to custom cut all 250 or so bricks.
