Is there a way of finding out what it is? Could be insulating castable, dense castable (varying grades), calcium aluminate cement, premixed dry mortar or god knows what. All calcium aluminate based products also have a short shelf life, 6- 12 months usually.

Even if its just used to add thermal mass it could be cheap.

Hey, Mate,

Here's how you do it. Send the seller a couple of questions.

"G'day Mate,

I'm writing from the U.S. An Aussie mate is interested in the Vesuvius cement and asked what I thought of it. What is it? Is it mortar for joining bricks? Or, is it a light weight insulating cement, or is it a heavy refractory for kilns? My mate wants to use it for casting a modular dome oven. Do you have specifications or a product number I could look up on the internet? I don't mind doing the research.

Cheers,
