Default Closet remodel - my latest project.

It started out with replacing the carpet in the bedroom with hardwood flooring. My wife has allergies to my dog and cat..... We used 3/4 inch prefinished white oak and it turned out great.

As part of the plan, we were to also remove the carpet in the closet and replace with hardwood. Simple after the bedroom.... Except my wife told me she hated the closet arrangment and the builders skimped on the materials and the paint was peeling from the masonite....

So, we gutted the closet. everything was caulked to the walls - huge mess - When I took it apart, I think caulk was the major thing holding it together - there were huge gaps spanned with caulk.

That behind us we patched the walls and tackled the floor. Then the task of what to do with the closet.... That's when I found out my better half has 70 pairs of shoes to design around....

The pics attached are what we came up with.
We used prefinished 3/4 maple plywood and prefinished iron on edging - works really well (trimming the edgiing is a really boring task...)

Just finished up today!

Very nice! I wish I had one like that.

...on the other hand it makes me realise I haven't got nearly enough shoes!

And do you know why women like having so many shoes?

I recently read this article which pointed out that its worth spending a lot on shoes, because even if you don't wear a particular pair often, you can keep them for years and years, and still fit into them even if you put on or loose weight, change shape, get pregnant, get old, whatever. Same goes for handbags and hats.

Its completely logical when you think about it...

Great job Christo - looks more like a small room than a closet.
