Default Hot charcoal on terracotta?

I am looking to make a home tandoor oven, just have a question.

The bottom of a terracotta pot, is there a need for "fire bricks" and fire cement on the bottom of the pot? Will the terracotta burn or crack, if directly in contact with hot charcoal?

No, it shouldn't as long as you don't do anything stupid like dumping water in while it's hot. That said, firebrick won't bleed heat the way terra cotta will. If you're planning on having it in the ground you might want to put something in or under it to keep the heat in.

And on a totally irrelevant point - this is my 1000th post!!! Name: 35361.gif

Thanks for the reply, I think I will line the bottom with fire bricks and fire cement to keep the heat in.
