 The Big Bang Experiment No, it's not something I did in my oven! It's an experiment by CERN that begins on September 10th (likely today, by the time you see this) along the Swiss-French border, to test the Big Bang theory about the beginning of our universe and possibly re-create the beginning on a much smaller scale. Frances, you're probably the closest - keep that oven safe from black holes  !!   |

Who knows, perhaps there will be a technology product that results from the accelerator that ends up in a wood oven someday. Either that, or we all get sucked into a black hole. I guess Frances would go first.... James

| Re: The Big Bang Experiment Thank you James.  Yes, we've been hearing a lot about this. So if you suddenly stop hearing from me, you'll know what's happened. By then it'll be far too late to do anything of course, but there should be time to fire up the oven one more time... It all sounds like typical human nature to me: Hey, lets see what happens if we make a black hole!

| Re: The Big Bang Experiment No little black holes so far... I had to go to the dentist this morning so I am specially pleased by that fact. The scientists seem to be pleased with how it all worked out, too. But I'll be sure to keep you informed if I see anything unusual heading your way.

| Re: The Big Bang Experiment Here in North America, the American focus is generally on football (the kind with the pointy ends) from now to January. Canadians ... generally, hockey ... from about now to June  .Me - maybe the Superbowl and some of the Stanley Cup playoffs - my interest in spectator sports only surfaces now and then. The rest of the time, I'd be fine with it if they fell into a black hole. But then, I'm probably not the best example of what's typical over here  . |
