Default Hi From Melbourne, Australia

Hi all!

What a great forum and site. I like many others found this site whilst looking for oven plans. Using info from here and other sites I have started constructing my oven. I'll post under the "Brick Oven Photos" section of the progress so far. Title will be "Toolmans Oven".

Never had Emu.

Had alligator... tastes like chicken...

I used to eat at the Jack In The Box fast food joint. Great hamburgers... Rumor has it, there was kangaroo meat in the burgers.

So I guess i had that too!

I've also had American Bison.. Buffalo.. It's tasty as well!

And welcome Toolman!

Can't wait to see your pics.

Yeh Toolman,
go for it and lets show these forum members that we Aussies really mean business when it comes not only to the building but also cooking a multitude of goodies.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. By the sounds of it there are quite a few aussies here. Is there anybody from Melbourne? I would like to catch up with others in the area. I can also provide info on local suppliers of materials needed. For instance, when I went to buy my vermiculite everyone was quoting me around $40 a 100L bag. I ended up buying it for $17.80 so it pays to shop around.

Hey Toolman, not a couple of days went by form my posting about supplies in Melbourne, then your posting came along! Your pics so far look great. I am wondering about where you are getting your materials from. I know of a couple of places, Consolidated Refractories and Darely. Do you know of any others?

Tastes like chicken indeed!

When we visited Up Over back in the day we visited one of the crock farms. We got there just a feeding time. Guess what they were fed... that's right chicken! I asked one of the workwers where was the sport of feeding them skinned and cleaned chicken why not let the birds in live - more sporting. He cocked and eyebrow and stated that they used to do that but the tourists got all up in arms over the practice.

Hi Toolman,
I'm very much a Newbie to the WFO thing (building rather than eating out of!) and would also like some information about suppliers/costs etc in Melbourne.
My budget is very limited and I've been in touch with Darley and Consolidated. Essentially their prices will mean that mine will be a very long term project to complete but I note you got vermiculite a lot cheaper than I've been able to find.
Any information would be great!
Cheerio,
Mark
