Thumbs up Re: Hi from Aus

Yeh, welcome Mike,
what exactly are you looking for?
There are plenty of suppliers here in Australia. Check out the yellow pages for refractory, furnace, kiln, etc for a few links. I found some outdoor furniture sellers carry precast ovens but they are certainly very pricey.
I thought that Thermal Ceramics would have a depot in Perth but they are only here in Adelaide.

Hi Neil

Good to see another Aussie!

Im looking for Fire Bricks, mortar for dome and insulation board for the base - Im trying to keep the weight down as I ultimatly want the WFO to be moveable - I may never move it but as its a first build and its been a mission to convince my wife once Ive got one I want to keep it.

Any help you can offer is much appreciated

Mike

Hi Mike,
I am getting involved with a country community to build a Pompeii oven but I suggested that it be buikt on a trailer for portability or even on a specially prepared pallette type base that can be loaded with a forklift or front end loader.
Welding a galvanised steel base will ensure durability and potability as the oven will contanin around 180 to 200 standard house bricks plus the insulation and chimney.
Let me know if you are having troubles securing the materials that you need to build one.
I have all the details of my Pompeii build but sid not use any expensive materials or adhesives and have no cracks or movement. Chech it out and follow the links to complete the build at:

Hi Mike
This my first post , Ive started my oven base and trying to find as many as possible fire brick sellers Ive been in touch with Field furnace refactories 02 97291799(Sydney) They do a sort of DIY kit which consists of fire bricks mortor and kaowool insulation And most of the suff you will need. If you give them a call they will email you a price list and a tip/ instruction sheet ,Darly brick works Somewhere in Vic make fire bricks and will deliver any where, and I just got this company off an other member, AVERO in Adelaide (08) 8353-4181. If you find any more drop us a line as Im going to order my bricks soon , if the Boss allows.
Cheers Paul.

Hi and welcome,

if you're looking for modular ovens have you sen the alfresco wood fired ovens website? They service the Perth area from memory.

I found trying to source materials finding the right word to search on can be a bit of a pain. For the insulation board it's sometimes listed as block insulation or rather than Calsil try Calcium silicate.

You could also investigate Hebel panels for the base, I put in a modular oven using this and the oven works a treat. There are specialist Hebel shops or I have seen some of their products at Bunnings in NSW.

Field Furnace in NSW and Darley refractories in Vic both are great places to start to get an idea on materials even if you source them in Perth.
