Miter saw to cut bricks?

Is it possible to use a miter saw with a diamond blade to cut bricks? I got one used for $25, so even if the dust ruins it, it's not a big deal.

Hi Jim,
sure they are, just use a diamond blade (as they cut quicker, smoother and I believe with a little less dust than a friction disc) but I would squirt the dust out into a plastic box/bag that has a fine garden water spray to settle the dust. You can have a spray directly onto the blade but be careful that a mitre or even I would prefer a 14" steel cut-off saw are not designed or anywhere near water proof or resistant and a potential source for electrocution.
Diamond blades are readily available on ebay for rediculously low prices at times so keep an eye out for that bargain, around $20-25 for a 14" blade.

It won't be the dust that ruins it, it will be the torque required. By all means use it till it dies, but I doubt you will get far.

I would have really liked a compound miter, wet saw. For $25 I would try the miter saw, soaking the bricks to keep the dust down, but be careful with water, since your saw is not intended for use around water.

we just finished our oven using a abrasive chop saw with a diamond blade, it worked great. we eve mounted water jets into the blade guard. we also made our own compound saw out of another abrasive saw.
