Al,
That looks nice, reminds me when I used to get black mussels from Keefers Boat Shed in Beaumaris many a year ago.
Can't beat fresh black mussels cooked in a little dry white wine and washed down with a cold beer.
I am not to keen on those green lip mussels they sell nowadays I think they come from NZ they are probably good over there when they are fresh.

Man, those look good!

When I was in my early teens a buddy of mine and I would go to the beach early in the summer mornings to bodysurf. On occasions we would see a Japanese gentleman wearing waders cut mussels off the pier pilings with a long knife. He would walk away with two full 5-gal buckets of mussels. Can't do that now because of the water quality, but if you could, it would be about $200 worth.

We used to collect mussels from the piers in Mordialic in the 60s.
There was heaps on the piers in Port Melbourne when I lived there a few years back but too many people, too much pollution, so close to the mouth of the Yarra, scared me off.
Love black lip mussels, still cheap at Vic market, its the main thing I miss up here in Qld.
Its all frozen NZ green lip
We do get little oysters on the rocks though that taste good.

Tomato garlic parsley and white wine a few minutes and a crusty loaf
