| I am new at forums, I have never done one before. I don't know if it's appropriate, but I was wondering where to get fire brick and perferably for cheap? I am from Manteca, CA in the central valley and my brother has an oven on the works and I would love to build one as well. I am cutting down a Yuka tree to fit it in my yard and would love some advice. Thank you. |

| Hi Barry, welcome to this forum. I don't know how cheap you can find medium duty fire brick. It should be quite easy to find them however in central California. I found a half dozen places in the SoCal area that had both Pacific Clay and Muddox fire brick and they ran from $1.25 to 1.60 a brick. I bought mine from American Building Supply (they have brick yards thru the state) and they were about $1.25 a brick. I needed 275 bricks for my 42" oven. You really cannot build an oven with regular, cheaper clay bricks, it just doesn't work. If you look really hard and are lucky, you might find some brick for less money (from what I've read on this forum for used fire brick) but expect to pay more. As for "advice": keep reading and looking thru these threads in this forum and you'll find it's pretty easy to come up with a plan to build your own oven, even if you have had zero experience. The building process is amazing and incredibly rewarding. There is nothing like lighting a fire and putting in your pizza, bread or roasting meat in this oven you built by hand. Let us know what you decide on building and go ahead and ask more questions too. -Dino

| I found some! They were $1.08 a brick. I am going to start a 42 inch oven in about a month, and I will ask more questions. Thanks. |
