| Hi All My oven is more or less finished and is firing nicely, so time to think about building a door. I will probably will go with vermicultie sandwiched between sheets of aluminium or similar. I've read a few different posts where people refer to various types of "ballast" that they are using in their doors - rivits, washers and the like. Can someone explain the purpose - is it as simple is giving the door some weight so it stands upright? Thanks All.

| I made my insulated door exactly as you describe, minus any form of ballast. I dont see the need, its 2 1/2" thick and stands on its own. Maybe it is the 1" aluminum framework I built under the outer aluminum skin that gives mine a bit more weight and makes it less tippy. RT |
