Default San Marzano tomatoes at the local King Soopers

Hi, All,
I was suprised to see some DOP san marzano canned tomatoes at my local King Sooper's. They were $6 a can, so a little pricey, but I was glad to see them carrying them. They were in the italian specialty food section. They appear to be the real deal. They are labeled as: Pomodoro S. Marzano dell'Agro Sarnese-Nocerino (DOP).

Here is a link to that DOP...I have not tried them yet.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone camera pics.

Thumbs up Re: San Marzano tomatoes at the local King Soopers

Hey Drake,
I've gone one better and sourced some San Marzano and also some Italian 'Cuor De Bue' tomatoes and seeded them for planting. In fact, I put 1/4 ton of matured horse manure on my dug veggie patch today in readiness for their planting out in about 3 to 4 weeks.
I also have some good old Auzzie tomatoes (in the rear punnets) called 'Mortgage Buster' (as they were developed by a guy that were so successful that he paid off his household mortgage in around 4 years), 'Roma', (which are also labelled as 'Roma San Marzano') and 'Big Boy'. I will end up with around 30 bushes so tomatoes to burn around christmas and plenty of tomato paste and sauces.
It will be interesting to see how they grow side by side and fruit.
My favourite tomatoes but mainly for eating is the are the Grosse Lisse.

Drake - I've been using the Delallo San Marzano's for a while now. Mine are $1.00 a can cheaper ($4.99) since I can buy directly from Delallo's store. The sauce I've been making is a big hit with the friends & family. I just got a large can of a different brand from Pennmac for $6.99, but it was a 100+ oz can. I'll be making a big batch of sauce with the new tomatoes soon.
