| Hi everyone I bought one of these a while back, and while I'm not in a position to use it in the wfo as yet (still curing), I hav messed about with it in the kitchen. Well, it seems very easy to exceed what it can read - even just pointing it into the open (electric) oven. Indeed, when I did point it at one of my curing fires in the wfo, it went into 'E' mode - ie too hot for it to register. So, do these things with different capacities they can read? Does a wfo demand the highest rated laser themometer out there? Cheers P de D |

| Hi Puy de Dome, I have a similar one but it has a range up to 500˚C which is the top end for cooking pizzas. When the whole inside of my oven is white, I know that it is ready to cook and I check both the hearth and dome temperatures. Usually, the hearth is 20-30˚C lower but can read as 'Hi' meaning that it is over 500˚C If I point it at the flame or the red coals, it will always read Hi so I only read the bricks. Neill

| Hi Neill, just re-discovered this thread... I did indeed buy a higher-end one and it is far far better for my purposes. I was able to read up to around the 500 c mark (900f) without the reading going awol and syaing, 'Hi'. |

| I always wondered if these things read a different temp if pointed at the white brick surface vs black. I don't know if there is an appreciable difference in emmisivity but makes me wonder... Christo
