| Has anyone noticed that the dome clearing--the soot burning off and the bricks getting white hot--has a smell? It's not like any other part of the fire smell, but when it happens, it sets off my internal timer that tells me 45 minutes to pizza! |

| Sorry - there is no way I am sticking my head into the oven to see if there is a smell.

| Being the old steam train buff from my youth that I am, the smell reminds me of all the old trains that I used to enjoy watching.

| It is the "creosote' smell from the burning off of the soot layer. |

| yea. I think it smells like diesel fuel or a house fire. Which might be why it freaked me out the first couple of times I noticed it. Now---ahhh. I am sickly addicted to the whole WFO aroma. And the food, of course. But really, just the smell of some WFO action makes me so happy. |

| The "creosote" smell will go away very quickly and indicates you have reached a high enough temperature to burn the oven "white". |
