Default HELP, what did I do?

I had a really good fire last night in spite of the wood being damp. Pizza's turned out perfect. This morning oven temp was still 550 so I made some bread after breakfast. Knew I would cook again tonight so put in 6 pieces of damp wood to dry and closed up oven.
I just now opened oven door to find blackened wood which caught on fire once air hit it with thick black smoke and soot raining down. Top of spark arrestor looks like covered in black snow.

Think I dodge a catastrophe?
