Default 5th fire last night

Had my 5th fire last night got dome to 580 and walls at 420 to 440 floor only got to about 320. The lower parts of the wall were around 340 I see that it takes time for the floor to get hot. What is the best way to check the temp on the dome just stick my hand in and point my IR and shoot up. I use gloves but it still gets hot and the IR is very warm when I pull it out. I don"t see any cracks so far and There is no heat on outside walls of oven so I think I got my Insolation right. I posted a few pictures of the oven in the finish oven gallery look for Doug Elliot's oven. Tomorrow I will go for 700 to 750 then I think I will go all out on friday. I used some firestater wood to start the fire but I notice that it leaves some oily residue on the floor. What is the best way to clean the floor? Do I take the ashes out after each fire?At what temp will I get the white effect on the dome and will it be white on the whole dome or just the top part. Any idea's on what I should cook first? I would love feedback on my pics. Thanks for all the post on this forum it is very helpfull.

Looks awesome Doug!

Congrats.

Maybe you could clean the floor by putting the next fire on top of the spot, and keeping coals on it.

Of course for the first meal........ PIZZA!!!!!

Once you get some big hot fires, the floor will clean itself. Don't go all out on the fire yet...keep increasing little by little...

You could do a roast first or even some sausages in a cast iron pan...
