Wink neophyte

I am fascinated with the concept of cooking in a brick oven here at the farm. As an added incentive, I have a pile of junk wood I have been wondering about for several years. I hope to begin the project later this summer. I am still looking for a detail of the plans that are here somewhere. (rumaging through a jumble of stuff)
I look forward to interacting with the folks here to make this journey into brick oven cooking an enjoyable and profitable one.
By the way my wife is convinced I am nuts for considering another project.

LOL, Peter... so does my wife. I guess they are all the same! She tells me that I have too many hobbies as it is and not enough time for her. I tell her that I can better cook dinner if I have a better oven. She's thinking it over... and I'm not sure exactly how to convince her to submit!

For me it was a year long sales job - easily the most difficult aspect of the project so far. What helped was Thanksgiving - as we played "shuffle the side dishes" in and out of the oven, I kept commenting on how much easier this would all be if we were roasting the bird in our wood fired brick oven.

Anyway, welcome to the forum - you will not be building this oven alone, even if your's are the only two hands to work on it!

I guess that is the advantage of being a woman building your oven. My husband took hardly any convincing at all. Just my assurance that he wouldn't have to help!

But nuts is definitely a prerequisite for this project!

I second using Thanksgiving as a good argument in favor. Last year I brined the turkey in a maple syrup brine. When everyone said it was the best ever, I told them to wait for next year, it will be event better slow roasted in the outdoor oven. It always helps to have backup with your sales pitch. Funny though, none of them have showed up to help!

Last year it was pizza appetizers for 32. Then we used the oven for many of the side dishes while deep frying the first of two turkeys.

Peter,
don't worry about the wife, just go ahead and build it as I did. My wife didn't have time to make a comment as it all took place over three weekends (two of which rained continuously. You can check out my build around the forum. In reality, it only took one weekend for the footings, two days for all of the brickwork and another two days for the insulation coats. I know that mine didn't have a base as it was cut into a retaining wall. I still have a few finishing things to do, but I pick up the cast doors, the mosaic tiles for the dome and the stainless steel for the vent/chimney finishing bits tomorrow, so all should be finished over my school holiday break.
Your wife will really appreciate it when she gets to taste the goodies that come out of it, and how it draws the family and friends together.

I know you are now thinking "what a stuffy snod, not responding to any of our posts." Actually about the time I joined and got my plans, my daughter decided to get married. We had just over two months to pull it off before her new hubby left for Iraq.
That behind us I am now back to looking at these plans. Incidentally I just had supper at the Macaroni Grill, they have a HUGE wood fired oven. I left inspired and full. I hope to begin digging footings within a few days. Thanks for the encouragement!
