Default coated vermiculite

Hi all I wonder if anyone could give me some advice, I have laid the hearth for my pizza oven and I realised that the cement didn't want to stick to the vermiculite, its now been down for about three weeks and is still soft in places I can make an impression on it if I lean on it with my fist I don't think that's a major problem as I intend to put a insulating board over it my question is as I have three 100 litre bags intended for the rendering I obviously don't want to waste it, is there any way of removing the coating ? Help it was all going so well too
