Default Home made yogurt

Expanding the list of things you can do with a WFO ...We used to make yogurt by putting the jars in an electric oven on the lowest setting possible.....

That's something that can be done with your wood fired ovens....the next day when it's down to about 120 degrees! (The target is 110 degrees for 3 to 6 hours and I think most ovens will maintain this temp during the 120 to 100 drop curve)

It's pretty simple really....mix some plain yogurt (one with live cultures) with milk, some extra milk solids, and put in oven in smaller jars. Use about a teaspoon per jar of the initial yogurt. After your first batch, you can use your own yogurt for the live culture.

Experiment to get the consistency you like. (I've used both fresh milk (boiled) or canned milk and added powdered nonfat milk to make great yogurt)

Okay, here's a link with a much more official recipe.... Publication: Making Yogurt at Home
.......if you're interested.

Adding frozen juice concentrates like grape or orange worked well too!
