To answer this question we must first determine, if possible what a pizza is.

I am curious though if this battered pizza was some sort of deep fried calzone or simply a more standard pie with fried fish topping.

It was the left over pizzas they made the night before in the shop that they didnt sell, battered and deep fried.

Did they batter an entire pizza? What size were these pizzas? If the pizza was folded before battered and fried, that sounds like a calzone to me. Either way I will have to try this!

They sell it by the slice battered all around.
Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen.

A pizza is a pizza. It is not a pie. That is an American misnomer.

I was in Scotland last year and they sold pizza with corn (maize) on it.

But is a piece of bread, dipped in sauce, a pizza?

I am definitely going to have to try this deep fried slice thing.
