Default Best Commercial Flour - Australia

Although the Italian "00" flour is available here and works quite well, I have found the "Bakers Flour", available from Coles and Woolworths, produces good results. I heard that a number of restaurants are using Bakers Flour too which is a good indicator of suitability.

Anyone found any other local flour suitable for pizza making?

Thumbs up Re: Best Commercial Flour - Australia

Hi Heliman,
there are numerous postings on this topic, here are a few to chew over:

http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f10/...aide-5981.html (Sourcing good flour in Adelaide)

http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f19/...alia-7005.html (pizza flour in Australia)

Not sure what is available in Perth, check out your Italian grocery stores for the best!
I have tried the 00 flours but not the Caputo brand and my palate can't detect anything special over the Gaganis special white flour. My greatest critic, (the other half) is also more than pleased and not too happy with me wanting to try different brands.

Cheers.

Hi Neill - tks for the feedback.

I might drop by a the "All About Bread" bread shop tomorrow to see what they have. Don't think that they will have Caputo though so may have to widen my search for something Italian to include the speciality shops as well.

I'll report back on the results of my flour expedition later...

Hi,

I use Weston Milling Milano Pizza Flour, which is distributed all around Australia. Unfortunately it is only stocked by major food distributors, and available in 2 sizes 12.5 kg and 25 kg bags.

I managed to get the distributors to sell me a bag. Very cheap considering the quality.

It is the best flour I have used to date, and has 11.5% Gluten. The only downside is they close at 05:30 every morning......Yawn

I hope this helps.

Martyn

That sounds fantastic Martyn - I've just looked them up here in Perth and I will see if I can make contact wth them tomorrow.

Hopefully they will let me buy a bag of the stuff to try. Sounds like a really great product!

I have found the Weston Milling Milano Pizza Flour is sold at Campbell's Cash and Carry here in Melbourne, but you require an ABN to buy.

I have just recently tried Manildra Pizza flour

It gave mixed results, texture and taste were great.
BUT - it seems to burn very easily.

I meant to ring and find out if it had sugar added.

Give it a try and let me know.... It's fairly cheap, sold in 12.5kg bags.
