			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I'm started my project with moving a rock wall, because where we wanted to put the oven was too close to the property line. My wife helped me and we completed the task in one day, which included her decorating a little.<br />
I also put down some road rock on the hillside so I can access the sight with my truck and tractor this winter.<br />
I couldn't do any of the work I've done on our property without the tractor. We are on 5 acres somewhat between Sacramento and Tahoe. <br />
I am attaching some pictures of the progress so far.<br />
Thank you to everyone before me, your ideas and hard work are an inspiration. I just hope my work will turn out good enough to post pictures of. :)<br />

I have surrounded my oven with 4 in block instead of using steal studs as I have seen here.  I plan on facing the entire oven in the spring as it is getting a little cold to do a stone veneer or stone work around the entire oven.  I want to at least just enclose the roof and make sure the oven s insulated properly.  I just do not want to ruin the insulated blanket with wet Vermiculitte Mortar Mix. Thoughts and comments?<br />

I noticed the other day when I fired it up that some (2) of the bricks just inside the entry way and to the left are not even.  My rake and peel catch the edge.  I do not remember this being the case when I built it.  So my suspicion is that this has developed over the last year or so.  I am built on the fibre board (2&quot; thick as I recall).  <br />
<br />
Is it possible the fibre board has compressed and has caused this to happen?<br />

Once I have done the construction for the hearth prior to laying the cement I was looking at using LYSAGHT BONDEK instead of the plywood or MDF that everyone seems to use. This is what is used to support concrete floors in office building from what I can gather. <br />
<br />
It seems to also have a fire rating not that the slab will be getting too hot with proper insulation. <br />
<br />
Is there any one that can see and issues with using this on the floor. Good Idea or Bad idea?<br />
<br />
I will take a pic of the are I am looking at using and will see comments on foundations recommendations. <br />
<br />

I have a few questions....<br />
<br />
I plan on leaving the angle iron the way it is in the picture. The weight of the concrete board and the hearth poured over and around it should hold it in place. I dont see a reason to recess it into the concrete block. Does anyone see a problem with this?<br />
<br />
The hearth will be 3.5 inches of concrete.  I am not using an insulating concrete on top of that, I do plan on using the FB board placed after curing. <br />
<br />
I am using 1/2 inch rebar about every 10&quot;. What is the best method to raise the rebar to the proper height within the hearth when pouring the concrete?<br />
<br />
I left the rebar within the stand about 1.5&quot; above the top so it will tie in the stand with the hearth.  <br />
<br />
When pouring the hearth, how do you prevent the concrete from leaking out through and small gaps in the form?<br />
<br />
Should I rent a mixer to fill the cores and make the hearth, or can I do it by hand with the help of some friends?</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I got to check out a 42&quot; Pompeii (style only but not from the FB plans) oven being built by a neighbour with advice from another but unknown person and I informed him that the bricks that he made the dome from were cement pavers, not fired clay pavers and were totally unsuitable for the oven dome construction.<br />
I showed him the difference between cement and clay bricks which was new to him. He also had a new crowbar trying to break up the polystyrene foam mould from inside the completed dome, He is about ready to insulate it and then brick up the entrance void and put in the 8&quot; chimney.<br />
I was looking carefully at his hearth which are fire bricks and asked if he had insulated his base. No, was his reply! Sad news as I explained the consequences and recommended that he demolish the dome, lift his hearth and I would help him build a new insulated floor, relay his hearth and then rebrick his dome.<br />
At this stage, I am not sure of what he will do but I will find out in due course.<br />
 It will only be 2 days work and well worth the extra effort now instead of trying to cope with the consequences.<br />
I think that there is a lesson buried deep in here somewhere, join this forum, research your ideas, ask questions, follow a couple of builds and then progress with help from the forum if needed.<br />
Don't have blind faith in some one or something that you have little knowledge about.<br />
