| can any clay brick be used to make up the arch and walls of the arch i do i have to carry on with the fire bricks |

| Leeth, If you mean the arch and wall in front of the vent, depends on what you're doing. The wall brick that will be heated directly should be fire brick; the facade brick that won't be exposed to high heat or flame can be just about anything you like. Jim |

| im going for the chllenge of the pompeii tuscan dome was going to build the arch (loading bay) first along with the first 3 or 4 coarse of the dome but not struck on the appearence of the yellow fire brick could i clad them in some other brick |

| Depending on where you are, you can get red(ish) fire brick. Mine came from Progressive Brick in New Jersey. Making your dome from common brick is not a good idea. The bricks tend to crack and chip. You don't want brick chips in your pizza. Some people have made the entry from red brick, and that's the most visible part. The dome? Use fire brick if you can get it. |

| yeh i was going to use fire brick for the dome i can get them for 18 pence a brick just wanted a more featured entry |

| I agree that the tunnel entry should probably be firebrick. I think you could use a different brick on the outside of your arch as it does not get that hot there and after all, you are still using a clay brick that will stand some heat. You could use stone as an option.
