I'm an Ontario novice like you so I don't dare to offer experienced comment to your two questions. However, this link will take you to a meticulous builder's website that is full of photos that might help. Brick Pizza Oven Models and Photos

In the meantime, I am at the same stage as you are - just laying out the floor - so any pointers you pick up would be helpful when you get a chance to post again.

Just wrapped up a four day long weekend here in Canada. Went from hearth support slab to eight courses (including the soldier) set over the weekend. From picture 1 to 2 (plus another row that hasn't been photographed yet). Quite exhausted. Will have more reports over the next few days.

For someone who only works on this project on holidays and weekends, you are certainly making great progress! I have no excuse. The project is right outside my back door and I'm currently on holidays. If the weather holds, I'll get back to laying bricks tomorrow. I don't think I have posted enough times to allow me to attach pictures of my project but will do so shortly. Your photo album is very inspiring.

Cheers,

John in Iroquois
