I'm gonna rest the bricks on top. And my walls will surround the floor and sit on the perlcrete.

I added a layer of fire mortar to my perlcrete.

I might have screwed up, but I think it will work for me.

Here are some updated pics.

A little extra thermal mass. It will take your floor a bit longer to heat up, but you'll have more heat for longer, right? So you can do pizza on Wed night and a full Thanksgiving meal with all the fixin's on Thursday. Sounds good to me!

Harley looks pretty bored there in the second picture. You need to reminder her it's a PIZZA oven!

looks fantabulous! with the attention to detail you have, I cant wait for you to start laying firebrick. thanks for doing such a good job of documenting and posting pictures. I broke ground today on mine with pick and shovel. needless to say, my girly hands are hurting along with a fancy new blister.

Dave, based on your pace of building your oven, when would you desire finishing it? Looks like weather isn't a huge factor where you live (snow and freezing temps). Maybe pizza and turkey?

Thanksgiving was my original goal.

I wanted to cook turkey for my family and friends.

But it's looking like we can have ghost, goblins, and pizza on Halloween!

We shall see....

Thanks for the compliments Kemo.

I'm glad you have started. It sure is a lot of fun.

Luckily I avoided the pick, but not the shovel. And I sure have gotten plenty of blisters!

Good luck!

And post pics when you are ready!

I think it's better to take too many pics than not enough!
