Artman can I ask you what did you put under your floor bricks. I can't find fireclay anywhere so I am thinking of using just quartz sand.

GarnerAC - thank you, i will try

I already poured insulation yesterday. 5" of Termovermit on top of 3" of aac blocks.
How long did you cure Termovermit?
Did you lay first course directly on vermiculite or do you have layer of sand below?

Some info for Slovene:

Zanima me alternativa tem raznim keramičnim izolacijam za izolacijo kupole?

I am interested in an alternative to the various ceramic insulation to isolate the dome?

bye

G'day
Guys if you can't locate fireclay powder clay will do exactly the same job. The high temp properties of fireclay are not needed at the low temps of these ovens.
And it can be used in the homebrew mortar mix as well as it makes the mortar stick to the brick and is easy to handle.
Regards dave

To dave

In our country any kind of powder clay is expensive. 25kg bag of clay powder costs more than 25kg of mortar suitable for direct fire exposure (rofix 961).
We have an option of using quartz/silica sand or salt. That's what our oven builders use. I don't like salt in contact with concrete as it desolves it over time so I am thinking of using pure sand or sand mixed with lime.

To artman,

For dome insulation I found roockwool high temp blankets 4-12cm thick that are rated to 650 degress celsius. Price for 4cm - 2.75m2 - 22€ .

I understand that cost is a major factor. Anyway, try to stick to low dome construction and steel lining of the entryway, if you are going to use it a lot.
For ''cheap'' outside insulation you can use clay that is used in gardening (ekspandirana glina)...
Hope to see more progress soon
